Strategic Anniversary Gifts

When you get married there are many things to remember, one of the most important is the date you were married on. The reason this is so important to you is that it’s important to your wife. For most men the day you were married is just another day, but to your wife this is the day they have waited for since they were little girls. To put this into context, by the time your wife was 10 years old, she had many imaginary weddings. By the time she was 20 years old, she had planned at least one location, and possibly how the ceremony would unfold. What this means is that the anniversary is the opportunity to recognize the big day, and she wants you to make a big deal of it.

That said, being prepared is the best way to make this happen. You (the husband) are going to need an anniversary gift. Use the traditional and modern anniversary gift lists to help guide you to the right gift. Before you go pick something out, think about the strategy to anniversary gift giving.

1. Don’t set the bar too high, if you start by giving expensive gifts the expectation will be that all the gifts are going to be expensive. Gradually build up to more expensive gifts.

2. Avoid gifts that backfire. For example, clothes that are too big might be misconstrued as an insult about her weight. This includes the functional gift group, for example, Vacuum Cleaners. While you and your wife may agree that these are necessary items to purchase, save them for another time.

3. Where to do your shopping. Stores that you would typically never go into, are exactly where you should be going. For example, stores that specialize in creams, soaps, and spa treatments.
